No R&R for PE&R: When It Comes to Patient Recruitment, There’s No Time for Vacation

Here’s a handy checklist to take inventory of your patient recruitment activities, from clinical planning through to enrollment.

It may be summertime, but those involved in recruiting patients for clinical trials know there’s no rest for the weary. Just as planning for a trip requires a checklist (what to pack, whom to notify, when to check in), recruitment planning requires the same.

Now’s a good time to pack more into your patient engagement and recruitment strategy — and to ditch efforts that aren’t producing the results you want. Think of it as insurance for your patient recruitment journey.

Use this handy checklist to take inventory of your recruitment activities:

Patient Engagement & Recruitment Checklist

To do: Action needed:
Start early Be sure to make patient recruitment part of the clinical planning process, beginning with protocol design
Create awareness Maintain a website to educate, engage, and enroll participants in your trials
Build community Offer a safe, secure environment to communicate with patients before, during, and after a clinical trial
Pinpoint the right patients Leverage RWD and AI to find protocol-matched patients for your trials
Use the correct DTP approach Determine whether your I/E criteria call for casting a wide net or more focused patient outreach
Keep HCPs in the loop Locate physicians treating protocol-matched patients and inform them of your trials
Expand your reach Join forces with partners such as patient advocacy groups, ad agencies, pharmacies, etc.
Enlist the help of experts Remember that it's helpful to bring in external subject matter experts to expand on your existing efforts
Monitor your efforts Keep track of what's working (and what's not) so you can course-correct

We hope you find this checklist helpful. After all, you don’t want to fly by the seat of your pants when recruiting for your clinical trials.
